Thoughts on the Election

Now is a time to remove the auto-pilot and begin to get to know the plane you are flying.

My dear ones, this election, this time in life is one to pay attention to. This is not just like any election, it is not happening just like the others of the past. There is more happening here, as the energy of the planet shifts along with it. There have been many shifts of this magnitude before, this is certainly not the first shift, but there has not been a shift of this size in many many years.

The energy of it feels very different then what you have grown accustomed to in the last decade or two. For this reason it is important to pay attention to yourself and others. To really listen to what someone else is saying. To ponder how that makes you feel in your body. Because for so long you have not stopped to feel it. You have had your reaction ready, from much practice. There has been no room for a new reaction, because your reaction was already set, pre-programed, like a pilot flying a plane. Not much to do when you have done it a thousand times before. Auto-pilot is a wonderful, life saving tool. It should not be discounted for it's value and what it has done for flying safely around the globe. But auto-pilot has stopped pilots from learning many things about flying. They just simply have not needed to learn these things.

Yet, what happens when you take away auto-pilot from the pilot who has grown up using it? Suddenly the pilot is the afraid of what she has never done before, what things she may encounter that are new and unfamiliar. Fear of not knowing or hurting others creeps in.

But then over time she learns. She learns to listen to her plane, to see what is happening by observing her plane, to know what needs to be done because she is aware of all the systems in a whole new way. The auto-pilot was safe and prevented unpleasant feelings of fear and uncertainty. But it was mostly blind to how the lane actually worked and what it needed. It was a sterile way of interacting with the plane, not a vulnerable way. It was distanced and removed.

As she learns to fly the plane without auto-pilot, the pilot learns about the plane, but more importantly she learns about herself. She learns about her fears and how to remain calm even when things begin to go wrong. She learns about her heart rate and her sweat glands and her breath- how they change with her fear. She learns what it means to bring her body back to balance, to find a way to pilot the plane when she wants to blame someone else, when she feels desperately afraid, when she wants to run and hide among "auto-pilot."

Over time, she finds appreciation for those who have navigated this learning before her. She feels grateful for knowing herself a little better, for an opportunity to learn more about the profession she has dedicated her life to. One she chose long before she really knew what it meant to fly a plane, especially without auto-pilot.

Now is a time to remove the auto-pilot and begin to get to know the plane you are flying. Listen to it, listen to what’s happening, see yourself feel the fear of something new to navigate and choose to learn and grow and appreciate the opportunity.

With love and gratitude,

Lindsay
